Our Editor took a chance while booking The Elements—it was slightly away from the more popular Ao Nang, which is the hub of most action in Krabi.
But then, love can happen when we take a chance, and it did!
This SHA Plus (Thailand’s Safety & Health Administration certification) hotel in Krabi is more like entering the joyful world of one of Eva Ibbotson’s books.
A plunge in the private swimming pool, neatly hidden amidst frangipani and other tropical trees is all you need to cut off from the humdrum around. The Elements hotel in Krabi, Thailand, also has in-house massage and sauna rooms (free to use), kids’ area wherein they can paint, play or do more, a little library, free pick and drop for Ao Nang and free bikes for those who want to explain the tropical haven it is set in.
We booked a Premier Room, which overlooked the private pool, and was a joy to spend time in. Beautifully-crafted wooden furniture, a very Balinese washroom that came with double washbasins, a hot tub with separate bathing here, a walk-in closet, a quirky powder room beside it, and a neat glazed-tiled balcony that overlooked the tree canopy—staying here is the stuff good dreams are made of.
We loved the food at The Elements, Krabi, especially the rich breakfast spread and various Thai offerings; the bar is well-stocked as well. A number of Thai delicacies feature in the a-la carte menu here, and all requests for portion sizes, ingredients, food-allergies if any are warmly received.
Check-in is prompt; staff is eager to help and well-versed in English as well.
The hotel also focuses on sustainability and that shows in the little things—glass water bottles in restaurants as well as room—refilled free of cost, use of organic, local produce for the restaurant, refillable toiletries etc.
Its name derives from the five elements of nature and the management tries to aim for a fine balance to stay true to the concept.
Location
The Elements is set across the Klong Muang Beach, a 20-minute drive from Ao Nang, which is where most of the other stays and hotels in Krabi are. The locality is a neat, little hamlet and you might just be the only person on the beach.
While the beach is rather rocky and not for swimmers, Ao Nang and other popular beaches are just a ride or ferry away.
Who is it for?
A stay at The Elements is for those who are done with the very crowded and noisy version of Krabi, a spectacular place otherwise.
The hotel is away from it all but has the charm that Krabi is loved for. It also offers good value for money and a very warm experience.
